As humans, we become accustomed to our routines, systems, and cycles. We settle into comfort and, in many cases, avoid change because it suits our present circumstances. But the truth is that life is always moving, shifting and evolving.
Faith Must Grow With Us
Seasons change, our bodies change, and our faith must also grow if we want to experience all that God has for us. From the moment we are born, we begin aging. Life is a journey from birth to eternity. So, our faith level is not meant to remain stagnant, it must develop, mature, and strengthen over time.
“The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith”, Luke 17: 5-6. To walk in obedience and fulfil all that is required of us in our faith journey, as stated in Hebrews 10:38, “The just shall live by faith,” we must nurture and grow our faith to a level of maturity where stress is no longer a factor. In faith, we must simply believe in God’s Promises. But growing in faith requires something many of us struggle with – stepping out of our comfort zones. We need to trust God for greater things, accomplish great exploits for His kingdom, and fully reach our potential in God on Earth.
Why Comfort-Zones Hold Us Back
Stepping out of your comfort zone is easier said than done. You must do something different, and this will be very uncomfortable at first.
Many years ago I cried out to God, “Lord, I want to live in the stream of your miracles”. I was tired of hearing other people testify of their breakthroughs and miracles while I was not experiencing the same. In response to my prayer request, the Lord answered me and said, “Son! The problem is that many of my people have become comfortable where they are, but if you want to live in the stream of my miracles, do as Peter and step out of the boat. Learn to become comfortable in the realm of the uncomfortable! For miracles are between life and death, victory or defeat.”
That moment changed my perspective. I realized that comfort can be an enemy of faith.
Dissatisfaction Leads to Transformation
First, you must become dissatisfied with where you are in faith or life. For your relationship with God to change, you must desire to do great exploits for Him. Reaching your full potential in God means fulfilling the purpose and destiny for which you were created. To do this, you must move beyond your comfort zone, step to the next level and even take a bold leap of faith.
Moses was not satisfied with just serving God even though he had many great experiences with God.
For example: The call of God on Moses life involved:
- Delivering the Israelites out of Egypt and seeing the power of God as the 10 plagues were poured out on Egypt.
- Parting of the Red Sea. (Just to highlight a few)
But Moses asked God to show him His Glory. He wanted to see God as He is. God accommodated Moses by allowing him to experience a glimpse of His glory. He made adjustments and revealed only His back to Moses, since no one can see God in His full glory and live. WOW!!! What a privilege Moses got, because he was willing to ask, seek, and step out beyond what was comfortable. What are you waiting on??
The Cost of Faith: Becoming Comfortable in the Uncomfortable
It’s time to become the Man or Woman of God he intends you to be, “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” Ephesians 4:13 KJV
After stepping out in faith, you must learn to become comfortable in the REALM of the uncomfortable.
This will take some adjusting and getting used to. As we step into new territories of faith you will face new levels of tests and trials. We must persevere until we become accustomed and comfortable navigating them.
It’s important to note, that as you move to the next level of faith in God, your enemy, the devil and his helpers will increase their efforts to stop you from going forward. He will try to shake your confidence, introduce fear, and throw obstacles in your way. But you must learn to be at peace even in the storm.. God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and a Sound Mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Choose to be at peace and comfortable like the Eagle that flies in the eye of the storm. Likewise, God has positioned us above the trials of life.
Ephesians 2:6
“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”
Your position in Christ is above your circumstances.
No Limits, No Boundaries
God wants us to understand that we are positioned in him and with him above the issues of this life and the challenges that come our way.
Romans 8:37-39
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When we accept God’s Word and walk in it by faith, we become unstoppable, finding rest in Him and His promises. Through faith, we experience peace in heart and mind. We ultimately become comfortable in what once seemed uncomfortable.
So, I encourage you my brothers, sisters and fellow ministers of Christ: Break free from your limitations and become all you are destined to be in the world and God. There are no limits or boundaries as to what we can do, for all things are possible to him who believes. It’s time to rise up, step out, and do great exploits for God’s Kingdom!
