Finding true peace in this chaotic world is not at all linked to relying on methods like meditation, yoga or medications to manage anxiety and stress. To achieve real, lasting, and sustaining peace—peace that can endure in this chaotic world—we must turn to the very source of peace: God.
We can find the foundation for God’s unique and potent peace by examining scripture. This peace is accessible to anyone who seeks a connection and relationship with God, equipping them to go through the challenges of this chaotic world.
Overcoming Life’s Challenges With God’s Peace
As we look at the many threats to peace in this world, we see a daunting list: crime, lawlessness, fear, anxiety, worries, and hopelessness.
The high cost of living and the struggle to make ends meet have become common issues. Many people worldwide are living below the middle-class status, and a significant portion continue to struggle within the poverty line. This daily struggle creates a stressful and challenging situation for many.
On top of that, the presence of gangs, human trafficking, corrupt governments, dictators, and oppressors intensifies these issues, compounded further by natural disasters such as storms and earthquakes—often referred to as acts of nature or acts of God.
Adding to all this turmoil, spiritual wickedness also plays a huge role, as the devil, his demons, and practitioners of iniquity such as witches and warlocks also contribute to the chaos.
Ephesians 6:12 mentions these spiritual challenges:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
This scripture highlights the various struggles for peace, involving both visible and invisible forces with which we must contend on an ongoing basis.
According to Isaiah 9:6 Jesus is called the Prince of Peace:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Jesus offers us access to God’s peace, which can help us rise above the chaos of this world and experience peace in our minds, hearts, and souls.
Let’s consider John 14:27, where Jesus says,
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, gives His peace to His disciples, emphasizing that His peace is different from the peace this world offers. His peace comes directly from the Lord. He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid because his peace is heavenly, not earthly. In other words, his peace is greater than the troubles and chaos of this world. This heavenly peace can only be found in Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Living in God’s Peace
Now let’s look at Philippians 4:7-8, which says,
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
We should not let the negative things of this world cloud our minds or affect our hearts, but instead focus on positive things, as Philippians 4:8 teaches.
It’s important to remember what God says in Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.”
This peace of God is far from the peace on Earth; it is so powerful that it can manage all the chaos, challenges, crises, fears, worries, and any other negative situation. Peace from God can conquer all and can keep us in a state of heavenly peace.
Even if everything in our lives or around us is falling apart, God’s peace can protect our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.
To have this peace of God in your life, you must receive God’s gift, Jesus Christ. As mentioned in John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”
As mentioned in John 14:27, Jesus gave this peace to His disciples. To live in this heavenly peace, you must build a relationship with God, for He Himself is the peace that He gives.
John 1:12 further explains: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and walk with God, He gives you the power to become God’s child and enjoy the benefits of His kingdom, including His heavenly peace.
Overcoming Life’s Challenges with God’s Peace
Luke 21 describes many things that are happening in the world right now, showing how chaotic the world has become. In verses 25-26, it says,
“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.”
The world will witness unusual events, causing people to feel frightened and uncertain about the future. People who don’t have Jesus Christ – the Prince of Peace in their lives, will fall into the category of those whose hearts fail because of fear. Those who lack a close relationship with God won’t experience His heavenly peace.
It’s also important to note that followers of Jesus who don’t stay close to God’s presence may also fear the chaos in the world.
Psalm 91 offers comfort and assurance. It says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the mostHigh, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
We must remember, that to find peace in this chaotic world, we must seek God, accept His gift of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, nurture a relationship with Him, and maintain peace by remaining in His presence and focusing on positive teachings from His Word.
